2) Entlastungsstraße

The Entlastungsstraße disappears in 2006 right after the World Cup. Originally it is conceived as a relief road, built during the construction of the Berlin Wall to quickly connect Schöneberg to Wedding. During the 1970s Autobahn bold euphoria the Entlastungsstraße is considered to become a permanent feature, a segment of the massive Westtangente (A 103).

There is a moment during the summer of 2006 of profound and strange beauty, very much in synch with Tiergarten’s true nature. For some weeks before its deconstruction, still maintaining all the props that define a fast trafficked road like guardrails and lanes, the Entlastungsstraße is closed to cars. A ghost of civilization leading through the thickness of the forest towards the brightly lit Fujiyama and high rise of Potsdamer Platz.2_entlastungsstrasse_sandra_bartoli
