Shortly before the end of the II World War between March and April 1945, Straße des 17. Juni with its favorable Ost-West-Achse characteristics of extreme width and length, doubles as an airplane landing and takeoff strip at the service of the Luftwaffe. The air traffic control command-post is crouched on top of the golden Victory Column.
