Adam’s Apples & Black Lips

by Tobias Holzer

Remember the scene in Adam’s Apples, where Ivan Fjeldsted (Mads Mikkelsen) is asked by Adam (Ulrich Thomsen) about his son and how he’s holding up with it? Ivan tells him everything is perfectly well (although his son is paraplegic, his wife killed herself after giving birth and Ivan himself was abused by his father as a kid). Denial would be an understatement. Or being optimistic. I love it. And it almost doesn’t stop to get darker and darker during this danish masterpiece.

I’m not making any comparisons here, but yesterday my adam’s apple and tonsils all of a sudden became bigger than peaches, my wallet was stolen in a gay bar (emphasis on happy), then I bought myself a ceramic dish today that broke inside the bag just in front of my door. And as if it couldn’t get any better, Andy Blake missed his flight due to iced railroad chaos and won’t play tonight at Ladybar.

It’s ok, just hard to accept sometimes and tell yourself it ain’t a problem. At all. I just play records by myself tonight And my boss does the intro set. And we’re going to have a really good dance introspection all night long. And Andy Blake just comes around when the ice has melted from the metallic bird wings and railroads.

So I just went to the flee market and found the record I was looking for a long time for only 10 bucks:

Come by Ladybar tonight and hear me play this song and everything’s cool and we all dance the night away. I ain’t complaining at all. Just saying it out loud helps sometimes..
