Carpet Land

by Jeanne Tremsal

I’ve been in a place today, a place so sad it almost made me cry. Carpet Land Berlin. I was looking for a red carpet, like the kind you see at movie premiers or the oscars, but just not red. I wanted a red carpet in navy blue. So I found myself in this gigantic store somewhere in a lost area not far from Tegel Airport. Me, the only client and three salesmen. They were all wearing a grey vest and a schnauzer (moustache). I was wondering if the moustache was part of the salesman uniform, if maybe it was a hiring criterion? But that was not the reason for my sudden depression. I just can’t tell what it was. Of course it was senseless big and the carpets incredibly ugly. But there was something else about this place, something wrong. I’m going to return there in two days and maybe I’ll find out.
