day 38 inconsistency robustness

by Bob Last

Increasingly my mind insists that 60pages is an audience not a platform and I am feeling a heavy pressure to say something eloquent insighful and really sparklingly intelligent about something that matters a bit like everyone else seems to do and in saying this I know I’m not even the first to feel this pressure I have pretended to be a sculptor for you a photographer a writer a painter a film critic a film director but not a poet (too easy to be found out) or a songwriter (just too difficult) or an architect because I am not convinced writing about architecture would count even though John Evelyn asserted that the architect verborum was intrinsic to architecture way back in the seventeenth century what I have still not done is join the ranks of commentary one could stand up for maybe I could have made some comments about other people’s writing that would have resonated but the powers that be behind 60pages and of course there are people not just software behind it imposing constraints albeit with less important consequences than the constraints embedded in powerpoint and implicated by Edward R Tudte in the Challenger disaster nontheless their decision to adopt the underlying paradigm of globalisation and outsource the feedback mechanisms for 60pages to facebook has deprived me of the ability to adopt or highlight other’s insights as I am not a member of facebook because who wants to deall with all that worry about who likes whom and is it ok to unlike someone you dislike and should I be worried that they get advertising revenue from snuff videos and so on still i did forward the fantastic Derrida quote posted by Marcus Steinwig about decision making to a few friends so if when i grow up I don’t loose that ability we all have as children to think about big issues without fear then I want to join Stamford University’s institute of Inconcsistency Robustness which sounds to me like it matters …..
