Food issues

by Stefano Sardo

As you might now from the presentation Christopher Roth wrote about me, I did this documentary called Slow Food Story which was premiered at the Berlinale 2013 and then presented in Telluride (where I met Bobby). Basically I spent a lot of time of this year presenting this film – which speaks of the importance of good food – in many places around the world: Stockholm, Sofia, USA, Berlin again, Poznan, Galway, Sweden again, London and then many other places in Italy. Everywhere it’s presented there’s some food involved: mostly good food, because of its subject. You know, local producers, winemakers: this film suite them very well. So, I am always invited to eat, to taste, to drink. The paradox of my situation is that a few months before starting the tour with Slow Food Story my stomach got sick, after a cure of antibiotics, actually, and I start to make a lot of medical exams to try and get rid of this problem. Not only the stomach: the worst thing is my tongue. My tongue burns – I don’t know how to explain this, but it’s like that, it burns – almost everyday since last october. Since antibiotics very plausibly created the damaged, I escaped from chemicals  and went for a homeopatic cure. As first thing my new doctor canceled many precious ingredients from my mediterranean diet: gluten, dairy, salame and prosciutto, coffee, etc. A disaster (nìbut, at least, not wine). I started to slalomize between dishes to resist the temptation, dinner after dinner. Many times, I should admit, I failed. And my tongue still burns: less then before, but it still does, and it turns me crazy. Today I am going back to the doctor. Wish me good luck. I want pasta.
