The Speech

by Stefano Sardo

Day 2. Same anxiety. Well, more anxiety. Not only I have to write THIS: most of all, I have to write a speech. It’s for Ludovica’s wedding. Ludovica, well, she’s my writing partner. We write together. Scripts, mostly, now even a book (but it’s a novelization, so it has to do with scritps anyway). I met her in 2002 in a script class. She didn’t talk much at the beginning, ’cause she was younger. But one day they made us read a character portrait. It was homework, you know: they were trying to make us write down the idea for a legal thriller series, starting from characters. Each of us had to invent one. I still remember Ludo’s lawyer. “Marcello Guerra”. She read loud her two pages portrait. As soon as she finished I thought: I will write with her. And I did. Ever since. We’re like brothers, in a way. We have almost the same birthday: January 22, me, and January 23, her. But she’s 7 years younger. Anyway, Ludo is getting married this saturday, in Ponza, a lovely island not far from Naples: blue sea, blu sky, white houses, wild rocks. Amazing. She asked me to say something at the wedding. I still haven’t written anything. I should start.

Like now.
