Ghostwriter (Guest appearance #1)

by Eva Wilson

“Today I received an email from a friend. It said:

Dear Eva

Today, as I was reading the former Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Il’s “On the Art of Cinema”, specifically the lines: “The real objective of cinematic art is not merely to enhance people’s awareness of the world but to develop them as communist revolutionaries and thereby accelerate the pace of the revolution and construction” I suddenly slumbered into a dream.

In the dream I was Eva Wilson dreaming that she was Kim Jong Il writing the legendary book “On the Art of Cinema”.

I was writing on the use of words in film: “The words must suit the context. Even words of profound meaning will sound ridiculous or nonsensical if they conflict with the occasion”.

I then paused for a moment and continued: “Actors too, should explore reality. Otherwise they cannot accurately represent new characters in line with how people are changing and developing”.

I was very satisfied with the last line. It seemed open to the fact that we carry different faces at all times. I, myself do that all the time.

I being Eva Wilson being Kim Jong Il decided to reward myself with a revolutionary power nap but suddenly woke up as my old self again.’

I wrote my friend back that I am not sure of what to think. Perhaps that I am Kim Jong Il dreaming that he is me or perhaps it is just my friend writing for 60 pages.”
