This morning I had a coffee with my friend Daggi, we went to this super coffee place called “The Barn” in Mitte. Basically everyone here seems to be american. It was pleasant and relaxed, a good sign. The city is on a good way and is leaving the “Mauer-times” behind, a good thing. It is time. Four years ago, I thought that wasn’t the case. (Now you even begin to see Brazilians in the subway that are dressed in a Mitte way; huge geek glasses, short hair, red little highlights, black track suits, all that combined with a brazilian body and white teeth, which leaves another impression then the Mitte body, that is hardly worked out.) Back to the café. When we left the place, I saw this headline of TAGESSPIEGEL, “Hugh Jackmann is a Hollywood star with humour”. I took a picture. Who would write a headline like this? The headline is clear, but it could be straight from Adenauer germany. And what does that mean “with humour”. Germany still has this weird idea about Hollywood, it seems, an idea, that belongs to the Fifties. (Like “With Humour”) Hollywood doesn’t operate with with terms like “humour”, “fear”, “joy”, “death”, “life”, way to abstract and simple these days. Also, the headline implies, that nobody else in Hollywood has “humour” and everyone else is basically a bitch and arrogant. German media should catch up with the new world in their headlines, Heinz Rühmann, the old Nazi actor “with humour”, doesn’t exist anymore. New times, new coffee, new americans in town! Please!
