Irish dinner

by Stefano Sardo

It’s monday night in Bra, the last day of the CHEESE exhibition. Cheesemakers are happy and tired and a bit drunk too… And so is the Slow Food crew who made the event. The whole town looks like a party house as soon as the guests are gone. I am invited to a dinner by my friend Seamus Sheridan, a “cheesemonger” from Galway, Ireland. Seamus is one of the characters in my documentary: there’s an Irish part in it, and during my Irish trip I went to Galway to interview this very funny, clever guy, who’s been a friend of my Slow Food friends since 15 years. Seamus can be very wild, alcohol wise, defending Ireland’s reputatio, and I must say that the Bra people always responded well to his challenges, historically, and many old pictures witness their wilds night together (people half naked screaming at the camera like hooligans, things like that). Tonight’s dinner, I guess, is Seamus attempt to bring those old times back, but it seems like this time everybody is a little more tired, or maybe just older. At least, I am. Maybe because of my stomach issues I feel guilty while drinking, and this brings away the fun. I leave quite early, at 1 o’clock. And the next morning I discover that Seamus and the others went to bed at 6 in the morning. Some people can always kick asses, no matter what, I must admit.
