Karaoke, done.

by Victoria Gisborne-Land

So Thursday night I hosted a Karaoke party, it was fantastic. I love karaoke. I think to sing in front of a room of people, as a very unprofessional singer is a challenge, an achievement and super fun. It’s a sort of therapy – the woman who used to live in the apartment above me in London did laughing therapy – to release tension, and a way to prove that it is all okay. The more I do it, the more I enjoy it. It is embarrassing, but that is fine. I believe everybody can sing, some people don’t, to one of those people I am one of the unlucky ones. The key is to never sing a song by Boy George. When I was 18 years old I hated all the ‘drama kids’ at my college. They were so confident and seemed like they enjoyed everything too much. Now I feel differently. That thing you get from being on (a very small) stage is great. Good for the soul. Putting yourself out there to make a fool of yourself is one of the best things we can do. That, plus singing, what more can your body and mind want. I recently joined a choir. Like I said before there are many, many people who sing far better than me, but that is the best thing about a choir, no need for a perfect voice, harmonies are great. I left an hour and a half of singing later with the biggest smile on my face. It was similar to the feeling after great sex or visiting a friends child, all different activities but with similar after effects. Anyway karaoke is fantastic, if you have the chance to do it, do it. If you have the opportunity to join a choir, do it.
