Micheline

by Anissa Kempf

Tonight, I went to a talk given by Micheline Calmy-Rey, former head of the federal department of foreign affairs. Not because I’m deeply interested in politics (even though I should be), but rather because I’m deeply interested in “personalities” (or great leaders), whether they’re Nobel Prize winners or whatsoever they sing, write or say. These people deeply inspire me.

And Micheline is definitely one of these impressive personalities (at least as an outsider and rather politically ignorant person). She’s calm, intelligent, speaks very clearly and has convincing arguments.

But most importantly, she has a vision. She thinks and at the same time she gets things done. She also has a strategy. She anticipates, not only reacts. She wants things to change, to move forward. Great “leaders” always have a vision. Without a clear vision, you won’t be able to develop the right strategy. Because you don’t clearly know where you’re heading to. This may sound so trivial but I don’t think it is. In a lot of cases it seems much easier to develop very diffuse strategies without having a clear vision. But these strategies won’t really get you very far.

Micheline, you’re very inspiring. And you motivated me to continue to write for 60 pages.
