Rudi Gelbard is a great womanizer, he is about 70 years old and Rudi survived the concentration camp Theresienstadt. Being Jewish he was forced out of school at ten and was deported with his family at twelve. This morning he told me that his father tried to pretend for a long time that all would be normal. Back then Rudolf loved crime novels. His favourite was Tom Shark––king of the detectives–- and his father got the novels on the black market in a tobacco shop in Vienna’s 20th district. Tom Shark’s territory was the 1920s and 1930s Berlin. Reportedly some stories contain negative comments about the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler.
Mr. Gelbard sen. provided a fantasy world for Rudi, so he would feel less of the persecution.
Rudi says doing that his father would have helped him a lot.
