What is it about Stuck in Berlin ? Stuck, coming from the italian Stucco, a decorative coating for walls and ceilings. Entering an apartment in Berlin, everybody would first comment the Stuck, if there is some or not, if it’s beautiful, apparently it’s always beautiful, I never heard somebody talking about ugly Stuck. It is the most important criteria. When people buy an apartment in Berlin their first sentence will be: it has Stuck. No matter if it’s just some ridiculous little lines or a prefab Stuck from the home improvement center. What does it mean nowadays? What is the symbolic? I do understand that after having spent 20 years in a Plattenbau (the prefab buildings in the GDR) there could be a certain longing for high ceilings and Stuck, for bourgeoisie. But not these people are so crazy about Stuck. The ‘crazy about Stuck’ people would call themselves creative. Is Stuck their inspiration? I don’t like Stuck it makes me stop thinking, no, actually it makes me think about nothing but Stuck and that is worse. I’m working in a room right now with über-Stuck, it is huge and it’s getting bigger every day. Staring at it the whole day makes it impossible to work. The Stuck was growing, it came closer each minute, I thought I’m gonna end up crushed under the Stuck by the end of the day. I became obsessed with this idea. I had to leave the room. I should destroy the Stuck before it destroys me.
