The Chestnut Tree

by Mavie Hörbiger

In my backyard there is a chestnut tree. I like how the tree changes with the seasons coming and going. When it starts to bloom in spring with beautiful flowers and slowly growing green leaves on the branches. In its full blossom during summertime with huge marvellous green leaves and tiny growing chestnuts rustling in the wind. Then in autumn the chestnuts fall, thundering down with this loud and typical plop. The leaves turn from green to orange and from orange to brown until they fall from the branches. Beautiful. In the winter when the snow trickles and lays upon the chestnut tree, it will all be covered in white.
That scares me. Basically I am totally scared by the change of season, by change itself. At the same time I like this beautiful concept of transformation. However I’m really scared. The only thing I want to do is stay in my bed and cry. Most likely I detest this damn chestnut tree.
