or is it the message?!
While researching, brainstorming, looking mainly in the internet ( and my brain) for new ideas to work into new concepts for my projects, this rather old but still relevant quote by Marshall McLuhan came across my mind. ( After being quoted for a zillion times he mocked himself by putting out a book called ‘ The medium is the Massage’ which I like)
The mediums has changed significantly since McLuhan put the quote out and became part of the cultural canon. Today we have the internet in its manyfold variations and messages can be transported in a vast variety of ways. Does it change the message? Is there any message left? Who is communicating? What are we saying? Who is listening while we are saying it? 70s political thrillers like Three Days if the Condor came up my mind when thinking of NSA shit of today. How would incidents happening in Istanbul this summer during the Gezi Protests have been transported without social media? Did it make any better? A lot of questions popping right now. Am in search of answers via the medium of the internet. Can this blog help for instance?
