Johannes Brahms who wrote the most sublime music (German Requiem, symphonies, wonderful chamber music, unique piano music etc. etc.) composed a cycle of Hungarian dances for piano solo (also an orchestral version). They became (right so!) terribly famous and were transcribed for different instruments – in this case for violin and piano. The legendary violinist Josef Joachim, who was also a close friend of Brahms, transcribed many of them. This is my favourite Hungarian dance in the most beautiful performance by the Polish violinist Henryk Szeryng. This is noble playing of its own kind. I cannot get enough of it …
