THE THREE LIVES OF CHRISTINA THE ASTONISHING (#4)

As Told by the Holy Woman in Her Own Words
A Hundred or So Years after the End of the World

What happened to me while I was dead and why I chose to come back from the world of Light and Love

I must say, it was tricky getting off the ceiling. At first my body wouldn’t obey me. Then, clumsily, I wrapped my hands around a rafter, angled my feet down, and dropped to the floor. In a few halting steps I made it to the dining table and sat down. My sisters cleared off the Spanish moss and poppies and Matilda brought me clear vegetable broth in a white porcelain bowl, which revived me. Then I told them my story.
“The moment I died,” I said, “my soul left my body and began its journey to the world of Light and Love. First I went to a dark cave filled with dead souls. Giver, the pure energy that binds us all, told me these souls had to stay there to purify themselves, but I could go straight to the world of Light and Love.” Matilda sniffed when I said this, but I went on. “When I got there it was all Light, nothing but white Light. I felt my soul melt into it; I let go of myself gladly. Then Giver said, ‘Dearest soul, what do you want most?’ ‘To stay here and dwell in the world of Light and Love forever,’ I answered. Giver said, ‘You can do that if you want to, but what if we sent your immortal soul back to Earth in an indestructible mortal body? Then you could dwell among people as living proof of the reality of the world of Light and Love. You could help them align their lives accordingly.’
“The thought of coming back made me terribly sad. I sincerely did not want to. I only said yes because I thought it would give my old life the purpose it lacked.  Then Giver took me out of the world of Light and Love and brought me back in an indestructible mortal body. So don’t be surprised,” I warned them, “by the kinds of things I can do now.”
For a moment there was silence. Then Matilda said, “Nobody’s been looking after the cows and the sheep.”
“I couldn’t tend them while I was in the world of Light and Love,” I pointed out. I could have said, “while I was dead,” but didn’t because I knew she would have thought that sarcastic. “I believe Giver wants me to demonstrate the power of my indestructible mortal body to the world.”
Matilda picked up the empty soup bowl. “You can take the rest of the day off,” she said. “But see to the cattle and sheep in the morning.”
