Writing about things, you would have wanted to, but didn’t actually see, seems extraneous. If I would have made it to Rotterdam this weekend, I’d have watched what they call Vertical Cinema. Why even speaking about the menace of cinema in the age of Youtube, and all the gateways of streaming? Why not just twist it? Why not translate cinema into a gothic church? A song abruptly seeping into my mind just watching the setup: You with the sad eyes – Don’t be discouraged – Oh I realize – It’s hard to take courage – In a world full of people – You can lose sight of it all – And the darkness, inside you – Can make you feel so small. It’s a song about depression, visible weakness. But I see your true colors, it proceeds, Shining through – I see your true colors – And that’s why I love you – So don’t be afraid to let them show – Your true colors – True colors are beautiful – Like a rainbow. Next time someone opens the doors of a sacred place for cinema, I’ll be there. Eyes wide open.
