We’re Going To Do It

by David Knowles

We’re going to do it. Yes we are. It’s going to happen. And when it does it will happen fast. You’ll have to staple your eyelids to the top of your skull to catch it and even if you do you’ll be really unsure and insecure when you try to report on it to your friends. And they’ll shoot you glances that only thinly veil a dense core of incredulity. It’ll happen in the blink of an eye and the shake of a leg. You’ll be so up-side-the-head smacked that your nervous system will fail to register the occurrence itself and you’ll realize what has happened only after the fact in a pain so heavy and dull it will make the worst of your slow onset hangovers seem manageable. We’re going to do it soon. It’s not a matter of if but when. The immanence will cloak you and will, in its persistence, make itself a uniform that you will wear each day out of the house whether you are going to work or going to brunch. Expectation and anticipation are the atoms of this new style that could be called the “any moment now.” Any moment now is when it will happen and we’ll be there when it does and we’ll be the ones that bring it on and see it through. We’re going to do it. Not now, but just you wait.
