Women like Lee

I was waiting for my team at this great bohemian place in Palm Springs, when I found this incredible book about Lee Miller. I was always attracted to Miss Miller, my photographer that day asked me about her, who she was and I said, she worked with “Ray Ban”, of course I meant “Man Ray”. Miss Miller was a wild mixture. VOGUE model and war photographer, a female Hemingway. (My personal dream existence.) At Millers time, it was possible to be shot in a Chanel dress and then, later, going to Dachau to shoot the most horrifying pictures, which Miss Miller did in an impressive way. BUT the picture in the bathtub is the most impressive one. Miss Miller travelled through Munich in 1945 and found through an american secret service agent Hitlers bathtub at Prinzregentenplatz 27. Miss Miller, who was shooting in the field for a while, just dropped her dirty boots and jumped in the tub. She had not taken a bath in weeks! (The book said, that she also visited Eva Brauns bedroom and almost passed out on the silk cover.) What is stunning about Miss Miller in the tub (please note the little Hitler “Buildl” in the back) is that even in the devils bathtub she has this certain elegance and naivité, that looks so daring, so modern. Like “I am sitting in Hitler’s bathtub. So what. He is dead.” As if she had shot him herself, like an animal. With this look in her eyes, she defeated everything, any horror. I always liked the look in her eyes. They always seem to say elegance is stronger than hate.
